The Minnesota Vikings acquired running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a swap of draft selections in this year’s draft. Mason signed a two-year, $7 million fully guaranteed contract with a potential value of $12 million. He joins the Vikings to support starting running back Aaron Jones, who recently signed a two-year, $20 million contract. The move is part of Minnesota’s aggressive offseason strategy, which has included signing 12 players to strengthen the team following a 14-3 regular season and a wild-card playoff exit.

Mason had a breakout season in 2024, stepping in as the 49ers’ lead back after Christian McCaffrey suffered an Achilles injury. He rushed for 789 yards on 153 carries, scoring three touchdowns before a high ankle sprain ended his season. Originally an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech, Mason proved his value with strong performances over limited opportunities. With his departure, the 49ers are expected to seek additional running back depth, as McCaffrey and other backups recover from injuries.
